S. Jersey Girls: Fri. S.J. girls: Buena knocks off W. Deptford in Group 2 final

Buena won its first South Jersey Group 2 softball championship in 23 years by defeating West Deptford, 7-4, at home Friday.

Junior Stephanie Walsh went 3 for 3, scored twice, and drove in a run for the Chiefs. Senior Carly Linus was 2 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI.

S.J. Group 1. Haddon Heights rolled to a 9-2 win at home over Schalick to win the title.

Sammy Baker went 2 for 4 with a triple and a double. Baker scored twice and had an RBI double in the second inning to break a 1-1 tie.

Shayla Sweeney earned the win, scattering six hits over seven innings and striking out four.

S.J. Group 3. In the title game, top-seeded GCIT shut out second-seeded Hammonton, 4-0. Erynn Sobieski pitched a one-hitter and faced the minimum 21 batters.

Brandi Chester hit an RBI double in the second, and Jean Romer added a three-run triple in the fifth.

C.J. Group 1. Freshman Lacey Olaff pitched a three-hitter and drove in two runs to lead host Florence to a 4-1 win over New Egypt in the championship game.

S.J. Non-Public B. A four-run rally with two out in the third inning helped Sacred Heart past Mater Dei, 5-4, in the semifinals.

In the third, Kaila Smith hit a two-run single to left field, and Lauren Dwyer did the same two batters later.

S.J. Non-Public A. Paul VI knocked Notre Dame out of the semifinals with a 9-1 home win.

Freshman Breck Urban and junior Brielle Pietrafesa each drove in three runs, and Alexa Toner recorded the win for the Eagles.

S.J. Group 4. Dominique Palagruto broke a sixth-inning tie with a two-run single to push Washington Township past visiting Shawnee, 4-2.

No Minutemaid advanced past first base until the four-run uprising in the sixth.
