Neshaminy softball coach Dave Chichilitti said he knew Tuesday afternoon's PIAA state Class AAAA game against St. Hubert would be close.

He also knew he would get a great game from ace Lauren Quense.

And he was right. She was masterful, Chichilitti said, as the senior righthander struck out 10 without a walk in seven innings to lift the Redskins over St. Hubert, 1-0, in the first round at Temple-Ambler.

Quense also drove in the lone run in the fourth inning.

"It's nothing new to us," Chichilitti said.

Diana LaPalombara singled in the fourth and scored from first on Quense's double.

Erica Ragazzone pitched seven innings for St. Hubert and struck out eight.

Class AA. Hours after graduation, two Conwell-Egan seniors lifted the Eagles to an 8-1 victory over Pequea Valley in the first-round game at Temple-Ambler.

Gina Massaro earned the win with 10 strikeouts and four walks in seven innings. Sabrina Gramiak, a centerfielder, went 2 for 2 with two home runs.

"It was the topper of the day," coach Sandy Hart said.

Class AAA. Brittany Colombo hit a triple and drove in four runs to trigger Nazareth Academy's easy 11-3 triumph over Franklin Towne Charter in the first round of the state Class AAA tournament.

The junior went 4 for 4 and scored twice. Molly Scullion went 2 for 3, scored a run, and drove in a pair of runs. Emily Shellenberger earned the win.

The Pandas will face Bethlehem Catholic on Thursday at Fleetwood in the quarterfinals.

Class A. Mary Wallick allowed no hits in five innings and also drove in four runs to help Bristol cruise past GAMP, 12-0, in the first round at William Tennent.
