La Salle trounces North Allegheny in semifinal

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - After a few errant shots during warm-ups scattered a crowd behind the La Salle goal, an assistant coach joked, "We wish they were more accurate, too."

Once the game began, the Explorers seemed as if they never missed.

La Salle routed North Allegheny, 14-1, in the PIAA state boys' lacrosse semifinals Tuesday night at Cumberland Valley.

La Salle (22-2), which has won 20 games in a row, will face three-time defending state champion Conestoga at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at HersheyPark Stadium in a repeat of last year's title game.

"We're playing really well," said the Explorers' Sean Coleman, who scored two goals. "Our defense has just been shut-down completely. They're playing lights out."

The top-seeded Explorers from District 12 have been dominant in postseason play. They've won their three games by a combined score of 33-9 and have scored 27 goals in their last two games.

"That's what we're here to do," said Matt Rambo, who scored a game-high five goals. "It's business, now. It's not just a game."

La Salle last lost April 15 against Gilman School (Md.).

Sean Coleman scored just nine seconds into the game, and Rambo scored three goals before halftime as La Salle built a 9-0 lead on North Allegheny (17-6), the top seed from District 7.

North Allegheny's only goal came with 1 minute, 20 seconds left in the half.

Brian McNamara and Aidan Kerrigan each scored twice for La Salle.

"That's kind of our thing this year. We've been jumping on teams early," Rambo said. "Today, we were just trying to roll on them and move the ball on offense and try not to be selfish."

La Salle last won a state title in 2009.
