Two CL alums get picked

A PAIR OF Catholic League products were selected Saturday on the third and final day of baseball's first-year player draft.

Righthander Ryan Etsell (North Catholic '10), a redshirt sophomore at Hillsborough JC, in Florida, went to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 16th round (No. 487).

Outfielder Nick Ferdinand (Archbishop Ryan '08), a redshirt senior at Delaware, was the Phillies' choice in the 35th round (No. 1,051). He started his college career at D-II Bloomsburg before moving upward to the D-I Blue Hens.

On Friday, third baseman Ty Young (Malvern Prep '10), a junior at Louisville, had gone to the Tampa Bay Rays in the seventh round (No. 218).
