Sideshow: Whedon, from 'Buffy' to the Bard

Not one regret, says Kanye West - it was all "awesomeness." (See "Thus Spake the Ego, Kanyethustra.")

How do you go from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and the 2012 blockbuster The Avengers to Shakespeare?

Enthusiastically, says Joss Whedon, god of all sci-fi geeks. The Bard is the greatest teacher one could have, Whedon tells USA Today. "He speaks to you very personally," says the director of the critical hit Much Ado About Nothing, which stars Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, and Nathan Fillion.

"He says take the things you understand - the stories, the tropes, the characters - and look further. Look within them, give them life, let them breathe."

Thus Spake the Ego, Kanyethustra

Kanye West's 2008 album, 808s & Heartbreak, "was the first album of that kind, you know?" His WestNess declares in a New York Times interview. "It was the first, like, black new wave album. I am a black new wave artist."

But what really makes it special is the R&B Prophet's lack of skill. "I think the fact that I can't sing that well is what makes 808s so special," he says. "I love the fact that I'm bad at [stuff] you know what I'm saying?" Yeah, totally.

Kanye says he doesn't have "one regret" about blindsiding Taylor Swift at the '09 MTV Video Music Awards. "It's only led me to complete awesomeness at all times. It's only led me to awesome truth and awesomeness," he says. "That's all it is."

Celebrities who dare to love

Olivier Martinez, 47, has confirmed the baby he and lover Halle Berry, 46, are expecting is a boy. "My son will be an American, but I remain French," the actor tells People.

Jennie Garth's ridiculously civil and amicable divorce from hub of 11 years Peter Facinelli has been finalized. They will share custody of their three girls, Luca, 15, Lola, 10, and Fiona, 6.

Michelle Williams, 32, and her post- Jason Segel beau, Dustin Yellin, are getting serious: They've been seen walking Matilda, 7, Williams' daughter with Heath Ledger, home from school, says People. Yellin is an artist whose work is admired by hipster Hollywoodians Kirsten Dunst, Kate Hudson, and Ben Stiller.

Getting down to business . . .

"It's my most personal work," Rod Stewart, 68, tells People of his new LP Time, on which he sings about his '06 divorce from Rachel Hunter and subsequent marriage to Penny Lancaster-Stewart, 42. Rod has eight children with six women. "I battle constantly with whether I'm not spoiling my children," he says. "I try to instill my values in them."

Great news for music connoisseurs. "I'm in the studio and almost finished with the album," Paris Hilton tells the Daily Beast of her anticipated LP The Bling Ring. "It's an electropop album with some dance-y songs."
