NEW YORK - Bernard Hopkins' defense next month of his IBF light-heavyweight title against Germany's Karo Murat has been canceled because Murat could not get a visa from the State Department.
The reasons Murat was denied were not announced.
The 29-year-old Murat, the second-ranked light heavyweight, was training in Spain when he was told Friday that the July 13 bout was off. The fight was scheduled for Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
The 48-year-old Hopkins (53-6-2, 32 KOs), the oldest boxer to win a championship, said he was "extremely disappointed."
