Port Richmond market recalls meat

IF YOU BOUGHT meat Saturday at a ShopRite in Port Richmond, check before taking a bite.

ShopRite has recalled its store-made boneless-beef round cube steak after it suspected that some packages sold at the store on Aramingo Avenue near Castor might contain small pieces of metal from the cutting machines.

After a customer alerted an employee to a particular package, ShopRite contacted 56 of the 67 customers who bought the meat. All of the customers were part of the Price Plus Club, the company's loyalty program.

"We know how many packages were produced because there is a bar code," said company spokeswoman Karen Meleta. "We take the number of transactions sold and line up the Price Plus packages sold."

Customers who return the meat with a sell-by date of June 18 or 19 will get a refund or replacement. No other locations or products were affected, Meleta said. No injuries have been reported.
