Delco bank robbers, caught on camera, nabbed

It was the ultimate inside job.

Two men are in jail after their alleged attempt to rob a Delaware County bank failed when they were caught on camera trying to open the vault with the combination one had found while cleaning.

On Friday night Upper Darby police responded to an alarm at the Citizens Bank at 36 Glendale Rd. for a possible burglary in progress.

Police located Brandon Bennett, 24, of Lansdowne and Jamar Gregory, 21, of Tresckow, PA, in the bank. Bennett was an employee with Premier Cleaning Services, the company that had the contract with the bank, according to Michael J. Chitwood, Upper Darby superintendent of police.

Bennett told police he found the combination on a piece of paper about a month prior. Chitwood said he did not know where the combination was found.

Bennett listed the help of Gregory to pull off the heist, Chitwood said.

The vault contained about $100,000.

When the two began to try the vault's combination, a security camera was activated and so was an alarm, he said.

"Fortunately the bank has security that sends a signal there is something wrong or else they'd be out $100,000," said Chitwood.

The two are charged with theft, receiving stolen property and related crimes. They were both remanded to the Delaware County jail after failing to post bail, according to court records.

"Had they made a big score they wouldn't have been into work on Monday," Chitwood said.
