Kathryn Flynn McCarron, 93, of Ocean View, N.J., a Philadelphia high school basketball star in the 1930s, died Tuesday, June 18, at the Courthouse Convalescent Center in Cape May Court House.

As a 6-foot-2 starting center for West Catholic High School for Girls, she was especially tall for her time and team, son Charles said.

In her senior year, he said, the team was good enough to make it to the Catholic League championship game, but lost.

Mrs. McCarron spent her working life, from the mid-1960s to 1980, as a secretary for Barksdale Studio in Clifton Heights, which photographed students for yearbooks, her son said.

After living in Springfield, Delaware County, she moved to Ocean City, N.J., then to Ocean View.

Besides her son, Mrs. McCarron is survived by son John D., daughters Eileen M. Horning and Kathleen Hickman, 16 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Her husband, Charles S., died in 1995.

A visitation was set from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 3948 Central Ave., Ocean City, before an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass there.
