Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren denied reports Thursday night that the team had finalized a contract extension with captain Claude Giroux.
Holmgren said that the deal with Giroux was "close," and that he expects to "get it done Friday or Saturday." The team and the 25-year-old center are working on a deal that is believed to be for eight years and $66.2 million.
Giroux is slated to earn $5 million this season with a cap hit of $3.5 million, according to capgeek.com.
Giroux was named the Flyers' captain last season. He finished the 48-game, strike-shortened season with 13 goals and 35 assists for 48 points.
