A pair of Penn State seniors, linebacker Glenn Carson and guard John Urschel, have earned mention on two watch lists for college football awards, it was announced Monday.

Carson was named to the list for the Butkus Award, given to the nation's top linebacker. Urschel is on the list of contenders for the Rotary Lombardi Award, an honor given to down linemen and defensive players who line up within 5 yards of the football.

Urschel, who has graduated and will work on a second master's degree in the fall, already had been named to the watch list for the Outland Trophy, which is given to the nation's top lineman.

The latest announcements give the Nittany Lions representation on seven preseason watch lists for various awards. Defensive end Deion Barnes, a former Northeast High star, is on lists for two honors - the Bednarik Award and the Nagurski Award.

Other Lions on watch lists are running back Zach Zwinak (Maxwell Award), tight end Kyle Carter (Mackey Award), and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (Outland Trophy).

Ireland, anyone?

Penn State announced that a variety of travel packages will be available for next year's trip to Dublin, Ireland, where the Nittany Lions will open the 2014 season against Central Florida. Information is available at PSU.CrokeParkClassic.com.

Lift for Life

As part of their Lift for Life fund-raiser on Friday, Penn State football players raised more than $133,500 for the Kidney Cancer Association, with more donations expected.
