Snyder is familiar with the Sixers, having served as their player development coach during the 2010-11 season. New Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer hired the 46-year-old as an assistant coach on June 10.
Snyder spent last season as an assistant coach for CSKA Moscow of the Russian Professional Basketball League. He also was an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakes (2011-12), the Los Angeles Clippers (1992-93), and Duke (1995-99).
He had head coaching stints with the University of Missouri (1999-2006) and the Austin Toros of the D-League (2007-10).
Atkinson, 46, was hired by the Hawks last summer and retained by Budenholzer. He went to Atlanta after spending four seasons as a New York Knicks assistant. Atkinson was the Houston Rockets' player development coach during the 2008-09 season. Before that, he spent two seasons as the player development coach for Paris Basket Racing Club in France.
This news comes one day after it was reported that the Sixers plan to interview Chicago Bulls assistants Ed Pinckney and Adrian Griffin for the job.
The Sixers are also expected to interview assistant coach Michael Curry. Five other NBA assistants - Brett Brown (San Antonio Spurs), David Fizdale (Miami Heat), Melvin Hunt (Denver Nuggets), Chris Finch (Houston Rockets) and Kelvin Sampson (Houston Rockets) - have been mentioned as candidates.
