Bucks fire destroys '50s-style restaurant

A two-alarm fire in Bensalem on Friday morning destroyed a restaurant on Street Road, authorities said, but no injuries or casualties were reported.

According to Fred Harran, Bensalem director of public safety, the fire, which began about 6:40 a.m. at Nifty Fifty's, blazed for roughly 90 minutes before firefighters got it under control.

The restaurant is a standalone building, Harran said, and everyone inside was quickly evacuated without problems.

It was unclear whether those evacuated included customers, Harran said. The restaurant opens at 6 a.m., according to its website.

Harran said that a partial shell of the building remains standing, but that "the inside is gone."

"Floor to ceiling is gone," he added.

The cause is still being investigated, Harran said.

Nifty Fifty's serves diner-style food in a 1950s atmosphere, according to the restaurant's website. It has five locations in Pennsylvania and South Jersey.
