Even as the world celebrates the birth of real-life royalty, would-be celluloid royal Amanda Bynes, 27, is taking stock of her life (or at least we hope she is) in a locked psychiatric ward in Los Angeles.

The former Nickelodeon teen star and sexy Easy A actor was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold - also known as a 5150 - Monday night after allegedly setting a fire in a woman's driveway, TMZ reports. Bynes can legally be held for observation for 72 hours.

The homeowner tells TMZ that police asked her whether Bynes had a vendetta against her. Identified by In Touch Weekly as Bonnie Braaten, 73, she said she'd never heard of Bynes. (Lucky her.) Bynes recently clashed with cops when she allegedly chucked a bong out her window. The 5150 has been visited on many a celeb, including Britney Spears, who was in lockdown for three days in January '08 after refusing to surrender her son Jayden to ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Cruz-Bardem: A royaler baby

Forget That Titled Tyke making such a racket over in Britain.

Spain was also blessed Monday, with the birth of the second baby of Penélope Cruz and husband Javier Bardem at Madrid's Clínica Ruber. The yet-to-be-named girl was born on the same day as William and Catherine's bairn, but no one blew her trumpet all around the globe. She joins bro Leonardo Encinas Bardem, 2.

Facts to know courtesy of Reuters: Cruz and Bardem are the only Spanish actors to have won Academy Awards, both for supporting roles.

Terrence Howard to network TV

Oscar-nominated big-screen star - and hero of suburban Philly - Terrence Howard is headed to the small box. The Hollywood Reporter says Howard, 44, will star in a new series cocreated by Philly film maestro M. Night Shyamalan and writer-producer Chad Hodge of Playboy Club infamy.

Described as a Twin Peaks-ian brain-melter, and based on the novel by Blake Crouch, Fox's Wayward Pines stars Matt Dillon as a squared-away Secret Service agent who goes in search of two missing federal agents. Things fall apart for Dillon's character when he ends up in the creepy town of Wayward Pines, Idaho. Creepy things happen creepily, and the agent gets all creeped out.

Howard will play Sheriff Pope, who keeps the peace (creepily) in his creepy town. The 10-episode series stars Toby Jones, Melissa Leo, and Carla Gugino and is slated to premiere in 2014.

Carter is better than LiLo!

The Brit crits have spoken: Helena Bonham Carter is a better Elizabeth Taylor than Lindsay Lohan! While it didn't exactly receive rave reviews, BBC's Burton & Taylor, which costars Dominic West as Richard Burton, is probably better than LiLo's Lifetime disaster Liz & Dick.

New job for Cameron Diaz

Charlie's Angels angel Cameron Diaz, 40, is taking a break from the movies and her active romantic life to do some arts and crafts.

People mag says Diaz has been hired as artistic director at the chic accessories purveyor Pour La Victoire. Diaz will be a stakeholder in the venture, joining celeb spokespeople-investors Katie Holmes and Jennifer Aniston. Diaz will help design the company's handbag and shoe lines. "Pour La Victoire gives me the opportunity to create something timeless," Diaz says in one of those utterly meaningless statements de rigueur in corporate America.

"I want to say that it's going to be fun, but it's deeper than that."

Don't cross Snooki!

Jersey Shore alum Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi is unbowed by pressure from residents of the Jersey Shore town of Pelican Island who are protesting her plans to shoot her Jenni "JWoww" Farley-costarring spinoff culture-killer Snooki & JWoww in their quaint town, reports the New York Daily News.

"Adults are trying to ban my son, fiancé, and I from enjoying our summer at the Shore," Snooki said in a statement, referring to her man Jionni LaValle and their son Lorenzo. "Grow up, get over yourself and move on."

Snooki took the moral high ground: "This is not how we should be treating one another. Absolutely sick and very sad. I pray for you. There's much bigger things to worry about in life."

Miley Cyrus: Justin's still stupid

Miley Cyrus wants Justin Bieber to take a break from doing stupid things in public, like urinating in a bucket in a restaurant, as he did not too long ago. "I told Justin to take a bit of time out and people aren't so obsessed with you and nitpick," Miley tells London's The Sun. "He's still stupid, though."
