Child escapes from car trunk after abduction in E. Germantown

A 9-YEAR-OLD boy escaped from the trunk of a car after reportedly being abducted from a recreation center in East Germantown, police said.

Authorities said that while he was playing yesterday afternoon at the East Germantown Recreation Center, at Chelten Avenue and Ardleigh Street, the boy was grabbed by an older male. The man put the child into the trunk of an older-model, light-gray Ford sedan and drove off.

After about 30 minutes, the man stopped at an undetermined location, opened the trunk and the child was able to flee, police said.

A woman found the child wandering near Chew Avenue and Gorgas Lane and called police about 7:15 p.m. Authorities said the child does not know where he escaped from the car, but could identify the intersection if he sees it.

The kidnapper was described as a white male in his 50s, about 5 feet 10 to 6 feet, with salt and pepper hair and wearing a black shirt and gray pants.

Special Victims Unit was interviewing the boy late last night.
