The Rock 'n' Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. Sept. 15, and organizers expect more than 20,000 participants from all 50 states and 19 countries.

The 13.1-mile race, which will feature more than a dozen bands along the course, will start and finish at Eakins Oval near the Art Museum and pass by Independence Hall and along the Schuylkill.

Known for 32 years, as the Philadelphia Distance Run, the event became a part of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon series in 2010.

The course is the site of five world records and three American records. In 2011, organizers said, Mathew Kisorio of Kenya, who finished in 58 minutes, 46 seconds, and Kim Smith of New Zealand, who finished in 1:07:11, both made history by setting U.S. all-comers' records as the fastest half- marathon in the United States.
