Pottstown man, 40, jailed for allegedly raping 12-year-old girl in Philly motel

A 40-YEAR-OLD man was jailed yesterday on charges that he preyed upon a 12-year-old runaway, forcing the girl to commit a burglary and then raping her in a Northeast Philadelphia motel earlier this month.

On Aug. 9, police arrested the traumatized girl for the burglary and found a motel-room key she had been carrying, leading authorities to unravel the details of her sickening ordeal, according to an affidavit obtained by the Daily News.

The girl told police she ran away from home in Atlantic City in late July and took public transit to Philadelphia. She was sitting alone at the Frankford Transportation Center on July 31 when, according to the affidavit, George Williams, 40, approached her. He identified himself to his young victim as "Miami," according to court documents, and paid her $50 to get in his black sedan.

He then drove her to a house on Tulpehocken Street near Morton in East Germantown and persuaded her to climb through a window and let him in the front door. When inside, the victim told detectives, Williams stole jewelry before fleeing and leaving her there, the affidavit says.

Williams, who law-enforcement sources said lives in Pottstown with a wife and children, met up with the girl again Aug. 8 and offered to give her a ride and pay for a hotel room for her, the affidavit says.

The girl went with him, according to the affidavit, and Williams took her to the Roosevelt Inn, on Roosevelt Boulevard near Faunce Street in Rhawnhurst, where he paid $90 cash to rent a room.

Williams asked the young girl to shower with him, but she declined and fell asleep, only to be roused later to find Williams naked and having sex with her, the affidavit says. She told him to get off her and threatened to call police.

When she awoke the next morning, Williams was gone, the affidavit says. The girl took the room key and $20 he left behind and made her way to a relative's house in Germantown, where officers arrested her later that day, a police source said.

Detectives earlier this week served a search warrant at Williams' home in Pottstown. He was arrested by authorities there Tuesday night and brought back to Philadelphia yesterday, according to police.

Williams, who has one prior arrest for theft, faces charges including rape, contact with a minor, statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors and related offenses. He was awaiting arraignment last night.
