The Eagles claimed cornerback Shaun Prater off waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday and designated cornerback Curtis Marsh, a 2011 third-round pick who had been sidelined with a broken hand, as waived/injured.

The Eagles needed help at cornerback, although Prater arrives without ever having played in an NFL game. The 23-year-old Iowa product was a fifth-round draft choice by the Bengals in 2012 but missed all of last season with a knee injury suffered in training camp.

Prater is 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds and earned all-Big Ten honors at Iowa as a junior and senior. He will compete with seventh-round pick Jordan Poyer to be the team's fourth cornerback behind Cary Williams, Bradley Fletcher, and Brandon Boykin. The Eagles also have Brandon Hughes, who is out with a broken hand.

Marsh will go on injured reserve if he is unclaimed.

On the practice squad

The Eagles added four players who were waived this weekend to the practice squad: tackle Michael Bamiro, linebacker Travis Long, wide receiver Greg Salas, and running back Matthew Tucker.

They still have four open practice squad spots.
