Letters: D.C. massacre plays into left's hands

Posted: September 20, 2013

WHAT WAS the motive of the Washington Navy Yard shooter? Who gives a damn? What I want to know is: What was the motive of President William Jefferson Clinton when he passed a law banning guns from all military bases? And, for that matter, what was the motive of school administrators who ban guns from all elementary schools and colleges? What was the motive of law officers and judges who allow dangerous, mentally ill menaces to roam free after receiving only slap-on-the-wrist sentences?

Well, the motive may not be clear, but the results are: a constant wave across our nation of mass shootings in our schools and military bases, all because of one thing: violent, mentally ill criminals who want to kill people know that these areas are clearly marked "gun-free zones." They know that they can kill, and not be stopped.

Why are we making victims of our children and soldiers just to push an anti-gun agenda? I'll tell you why: because the liberal left, who pass these anti-gun laws and allow mentally ill killers to walk free, know that incidents like the Navy Yard shooting are effective at promoting the Democratic Party's gun-ban agenda. New anti-gun laws are already being called for by Democrats like Dianne Feinstein only a day after the shooting. Democrats are already using this tragedy to push their political agenda.

Apparently, these shootings are nothing more than convenient props for the anti-gun left. They know that every killing of a willingly unarmed citizen brings them one step closer to their goal of a total gun ban. And all it costs are the lives of a few soldiers and children.

'A clear objective'

The threat of a military strike has caused Syria to consider turning over its chemical stockpiles to Russia. Syria needs to be held accountable for violating the international ban on chemical weapons. The world has seen what chemical weapons can do: foaming of the mouth, involuntary twitching and death.

Dictators around the world are watching the U.S. If our commander in chief does not take a firm stand, these atrocities can spread throughout the world.

This cannot be compared to Iraq because we are going in with a clear objective and know that weapons of mass destruction do exist.
