Chesco DA withdraws sex charges against teacher

Posted: September 21, 2013

The Chester County district attorney has withdrawn all charges against a Pottstown Middle School science teacher accused of sexually assaulting a young girl.

The case against Jared Leimeister, 34, of Pottstown, was closed after a preliminary hearing found there was insufficient evidence to proceed to trial, according to his attorney Adam Sager.

Leimeister had been charged with aggravated assault and related crimes for incidents that allegedly occurred between October 2012 and February 2013, while the girl was visiting his home.

Further investigations by both the North Coventry Police and the Chester County District Attorney's Office found "inconsistent statements and new information," said Sager.

Leimeister had been suspended with pay from the Pottstown School District.

His employment status "is in the hands of the school board to determine if and when he can go back," said Sager.

Leimeister, who teaches eighth-grade science, has worked in the district since 2008. In January 2011, he was deployed for a year for active military service to Afghanistan. He is in the National Guard Reserve.
