North Carolina prep forward commits to St. Joe's

Posted: September 27, 2013

St. Joseph's received an oral commitment Wednesday from Markell Lodge, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward from North Carolina, who has a similar style to Hawks senior Ronald Roberts Jr.

Lodge attended Christian Faith Center Academy last season but has transferred to Prominence Academy, outside of Chapel Hill.

"When I went on my official visit they compared us, and that is a good thing," Lodge said about Roberts in a telephone interview.

Lodge is known for his ferocious dunking and shot-blocking ability, but he says he has a perimeter game he will showcase this season.

He said he chose St. Joseph's after striking up a strong relationship with coach Phil Martelli and assistant Dave Duda.

Lodge said he selected St. Joseph's over Murray State, Mississippi and Stephen F. Austin. He said he is looking to play small forward for the Hawks.
