Fans to Celtics' Ainge: Tank you very much

WHO WOULD have thought Sixers and Celtics fans would have something in common?

Although the NBA season hasn't started, there is already a tanking mentality among the fans in each city who want their teams to lose in order to secure the first pick in the draft.

That pick, most believe, will be Kansas' Andrew Wiggins.

To that end, some are suggesting that Philadelphia should become Tankadelphia.

Apparently, fans in Boston feel the same way.

"As I walk around town, more than anything else there are those that say, 'Hey, don't win too many games,' " Celtics general manager Danny Ainge told Sports Illustrated. "There are so many fans that want us to play for the draft."

Ainge said it might be something to consider if there were any players worth losing for in the 2014 draft.

"If Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was out there to change your franchise forever, or Tim Duncan was going to change your franchise for 15 years, that might be a different story," Ainge said. "I don't see that player out there."

Theater of absurd

The University of Mississippi is investigating an allegation that an estimated 20 members of its football team were among those who used homosexual slurs during a university production of "The Laramie Project," a play based on the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, an openly gay student who attended the University of Wyoming.

According to a report in the Daily Mississippian, the school's newspaper, some players - at the request of the athletic department - apologized to cast members.

"I am the only gay person on the cast," junior theater major Garrison Gibbons told the paper. "I played a gay character in the show, and to be ridiculed like that was something that really made me realize that some people at Ole Miss and in Mississippi still can't accept me for who I am."
