So it's like this: Gravity (the physical force) can't hold, tie, or pull down Gravity the movie.

Celebrated Children of Men director Alfonso Cuarón dominated the nation's cinematic landscape over the weekend with his latest sci-fi epic, a space-walk thriller starring Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, and Ed Harris. The picture made $55.6 mil in its opening weekend, according to studio estimates. It's the highest October opening weekend, like ever, breaking a record set in 2011 by Paranormal Activity 3's $52.6 million debut.

The film with one of the grossest titles ever, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 dropped 37 percent in its second weekend to take No. 2 on the box office list with $21.5 mil. The $78 mil picture has made a 10-day total of $60.6 mil.

It was a bummer of a weekeknd for Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake, whose hyped crime drama, Runner Runner, opened at third place with a dismal $7.6 mil.

Finally, a disclaimer we feel is lacking in such reports: Box office receipts do not reflect the esthetic quality of a film.

Berry, Martinez have superbaby

The world's most beautiful genetic coupling - Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez - have yielded what will surely be one of history's most beautiful boys.

The actors, who married in July, on Saturday welcomed the tyke at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. It's their first baby. His measurements, weight, and name have yet to be released.

Berry has another child, 5-year-old daughter Nahla, with Gabriel Aubry.

"On Sunday, the big sister was seen happily skipping and prancing in the corridor of the maternity floor," an unnamed hospital source tells People.
