A dream matchup for Belgian NBA fans in England

MANCHESTER, England - The original plan was to fly to New York and take in an NBA game.

That's how Jerone Stubbe planned to treat his best friend, Darien Weyand, for his bachelor party.

But while he was searching on NBA.com six weeks ago, Stubbe noticed that the 76ers were playing the Oklahoma City Thunder in a preseason game in Manchester.

Suddenly, flying to New York lost its luster for the residents of Brussels, Belgium. Stubbe has been a diehard Sixers fan, and Weyand is a huge Thunder supporter.

So on Tuesday morning, they flew in to attend the preseason game at Phones 4U Arena. Stubbe wore a black No. 3 Allen Iverson Sixers jersey. Weyand wore a blue No. 35 Kevin Durant Thunders jersey.

Both used to root for the Sixers until Iverson was traded to the Denver Nuggets in 2006.

"Now, I follow OKC because it is a young, talented team," Weyand said. "I love the play of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden."

He paused before saying, "I'm really, really disappointed" that Harden was traded to the Houston Rockets last October.

"I love basketball, so I watch every team except Miami," Weyand said. "I'm a hater, because of LeBron [James]. So I hate him. He's a good player."

"Love the game, hate the player," Stubbe chimed in.

Stubbe would never say anything bad about his beloved 76ers. In his eyes, Iverson could do no wrong.

"Maybe it's his killer crossover, he's short, the way he changed his [braids] every two or three weeks," Stubbe said. "It's everything about him. I think it's the way he dresses. It's the whole style."
