Medical personnel brought a stretcher out, and Paprocki was carted off the field, giving the applauding crowd a thumbs-up. The delay lasted so long that the officials granted players three minutes of warm-up time before resuming play.
After the game, coaches said the injury looked worse than it was. Paprocki was taken to St. Mary's hospital and was treated for a stinger, coaches said. He initially felt numbness in his neck, but it eventually subsided. He was reported to be in "fine" condition.
"It's terrible," Neshaminy coach Mark Schmidt said. "It was a clean hit, a hard hit, but he really smacked his head. It's tough. He wanted to get up and walk off, but he had tingling in one arm, so they wanted to make sure and take precaution."
For Council Rock South, the Paprocki injury was a nightmarish turn in a game in which not much went well for the 1-6 Golden Hawks.
The Neshaminy defense held Council Rock South to 105 yards of total offense, and Redskins junior D'Andre Pollard rushed for 235 yards and four touchdowns.
Neshaminy, ranked No. 4 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer, improved to 7-0.
Pollard eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in his first season as the Redskins' starter. He has rushed for 1,222 yards and 18 touchdowns this year. Against Council Rock South, he had touchdown runs of 9, 1, 12, and 72 yards.
"My receivers were doing great blocking on the perimeters, which made it easy for me to bounce it outside and get one-on-ones with their safeties and corners," Pollard said.
Neshaminy's defense posted its fourth shutout of the year. On average, the Redskins are giving up a field goal to their opponents this season. They will close their season with three Suburban One League National Conference games, home against Bensalem, at Abington, and at Pennsbury.
"We compete against everybody's best games," Schmidt said. "Overall, we just have to play better, because the next teams we play are all pretty good."
