The Eagles signed linebacker Emmanuel Acho off the New York Giants practice squad on Monday and released cornerback Shaun Prater.

Acho spent the offseason, training camp, and preseason with the Eagles. He was released at the end the preseason when the team claimed Prater off waivers.

The linebacker then signed with the Giants practice squad. The Eagles host New York on Sunday.

"We're looking for another linebacker-type body," general manager Howie Roseman said. "He was productive on special teams in the preseason. He knows the defense, so it made sense."

The Eagles have a greater need for inside linebacker help after Jake Knott hurt his hamstring in Sunday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Roc Carmichael had passed Prater on the depth chart, although the team now has only four cornerbacks. The Eagles released Jordan Poyer on Saturday. The Cleveland Browns claimed Poyer off waivers.

Defending the long kick

Eagles coach Chip Kelly defended his decision to try a 60-yard field goal on fourth and 1 with 14 seconds left in the first half against the Cowboys. Alex Henery missed the field goal wide left.

"I don't think we were going to dial up a play that was going to get us 15 yards on fourth and 1 to put us in a situation for a closer field goal," said Kelly, who added that Henery was "hitting from 60 in pregame warm-up."

Had the Eagles successfully rushed for a first down, Kelly said, it still would have been a long attempt.

Injuries

Safety Patrick Chung and running back Chris Polk missed the Cowboys game with shoulder injuries. Roseman said both were close to being able to play, but the team will have a better idea of their status for the Giants game later in the week.
