Despite a 46-8 win, Interboro's postgame speech was subdued.

Kneeling players quietly listened to their coach, lacking the typical post-victory exuberance, as Steve Lennox's speech focused on topics other than wins and losses.

During Saturday's victory at Chester (2-7 overall, 1-3 league) in a Del-Val League matchup, Interboro (4-4, 2-2) lost senior captain Sonny Armstrong to a fractured right forearm with only two games left in the regular season, and four players, including one from Interboro, were ejected from the game after a fight in the fourth quarter.

Armstrong, who had six carries for 91 yards and a score and a 17-yard touchdown catch in a little more than a quarter of play, got hurt while making a tackle on defense.

Miguel Quinones, a fellow senior, comforted Armstrong as he was stabilized on a stretcher before being placed in an ambulance. The two have played together for the last four years and also have wrestled at Interboro.

"I was just telling him to keep his head up," Quinones said. "That's all I could really tell him.

"I wish Sonny was here to see it and finish out the season with us."

The team will sign a game ball and send it to Armstrong.

"We let [injured teammates] know we appreciate them," Lennox said. "Unfortunately, injuries are a part of the game. . . . We miss him, and we're going to try to work hard without him."

A fight broke out between linemen and escalated with nine minutes left in the game. The ejected players will be suspended for their teams' next game.

"This is our 21st season playing them," Lennox said. "We've always had great games with Chester and good sportsmanship. That was an unfortunate incident."

"I just looked up and saw a minor melee," Chester coach Chuck Crews said. "As usual, we come out on the short end of the stick. We lose three, and they lose one."

Saturday also served as Chester's senior day and homecoming.

"That's not what the game was about," Crews said. "It was supposed to be a family atmosphere. This is not how I want my seniors' last home game to be. That's what I'm taking away from this.

"That's not how you want their last home-game memory."
