Reed Smith L.L.P. hired the following attorneys in its Philadelphia office:

   Laura Amato joins the financial industry group.

   Tsedey Bogale joins the life sciences health industry group. Bogale was a summer associate with the firm in 2011 and 2012.

   Molly Campbell joins the commercial litigation group after a clerkship with U.S. District Judge Lawrence Stengel.

   Megan Cribbs joins the corporate and securities group. She was a summer associate with the firm in 2012.

   Amanda Haverstick joins as counsel in the firm's labor and employment practice group. Haverstick had been special employment law counsel at Proskauer Rose.

   Michael Lurie joins the state tax group. He was a summer associate with the firm in 2012 and has continued to work as a law clerk with the state tax group.

   Tyler Morris joins the corporate and securities group. He was a summer associate with the firm in 2012.

   Michael Penza joins the state tax group.

   Daniel Wotherspoon joins the commercial litigation group. He was a summer associate with the firm in 2012.

David A. Sass was appointed medical director for the liver transplant program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Sass previously served as chief of hepatology at Hahnemann University Hospital/Drexel University College of Medicine.

Kelly Hoover was named a financial adviser at Hoover Financial Advisors P.C., Malvern. She had been supervisor of the Fixed Income Fund Analysis Team at Vanguard.

Martin L.L.C., Philadelphia, hired Shuaiyb Newton as an associate to practice in the areas of Social Security disability and long-term disability. He had been an assistant district attorney in the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office.

Megan Knowlton Balne has been named an associate at Hyland Levin L.L.P., Marlton. She clerked for Jerome B. Simandle, chief U.S. district judge for the District of New Jersey and for Ronald E. Bookbinder, assignment judge of the New Jersey Superior Court for Burlington County.

Sonia DeVan was promoted to manager, public affairs and program development, for the Gateway Health Philadelphia region. She had been senior community and program development specialist.

Astral Artists, Philadelphia, promoted Julia Rubio to executive director from director of development. Amy Sue Barston has been named programs director. She is an active solo cellist and chamber musician. Kristen Golia has been hired as director of development. She had been managing director at Intercultural Journeys.

William H. Speacht was promoted

to deputy chief compliance officer/director of fund administration at Turner Investments, an employee-owned investment firm based in Berwyn. He previously served as deputy chief compliance officer.

Center School, an independent private school in Abington for children who learn differently, named Lisa S. Havel as its director of finance and operations. She had been accounting manager at Abington Friends School.

TD Bank named Vincent N. Gargione vice president, store manager of its Hammonton store. He had been assistant vice president in the Private Client Group at PNC Bank and assistant vice president in Premier Banking & Investments at Bank of America.

The social-media and public relations agency Slice Communications L.L.C., Philadelphia, hired Kwan Morrow as social-media account supervisor and Brian McDonnell as a sales associate. Morrow had been a social solutions architect at Philadelphia-based social and mobile marketing company Stuzo. McDonnell had been a community liaison at the Ace Club, a Lafayette Hill golf course.

Howard Ross was appointed professor of clinical surgery and chief of colorectal surgery at Temple University School of Medicine, and surgical director of the Digestive Disease Center at Temple University Hospital. Ross had served as director of colon and rectal oncology for Meridian Health System in New Jersey.

Robert L. Pratter, a commercial litigator with a focus on corporate governance and insurance regulatory and transaction matters, joined Cohen Placitella & Roth P.C., Philadelphia, as a member after more than 30 years at Duane Morris L.L.P. He has also served as acting Pennsylvania insurance commissioner, executive deputy general counsel for litigation for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Office of General Counsel, and general counsel to PMA Capital Corp.    

   Alessandra Phillips joins the firm as an associate. She was formerly associated with Grant & Eisenhofer P.A. and with Kessler Topaz Meltzer & Check L.L.P. - Mike Zebe
