Wed. S.J. girls and boys: DeMarco lifts St. Joseph

Posted: November 08, 2013

It is something special, John DeMarco said, that the two best St. Joseph field hockey players he has coached in his 30-year tenure are his daughters.

And now he is preparing for his younger daughter, Emily, to surpass her older sister's mark.

Emily DeMarco scored three times Wednesday to lead the Wildcats past visiting St. Rose, 5-0, in the South Jersey Non-Public quarterfinals.

The senior bound for American University is just three goals from her sister Megan's school record of 126 career goals. Megan DeMarco graduated in 2010 and is now at St. Joseph's University.

Emily DeMarco scored twice in the second half, and Mikaela Power recorded her 12th shutout.

"If anybody had to beat it, Megan would want it to be Emily," John DeMarco said. "Everybody wants to be a record-breaker, but Emily just wants to win."

Bishop Eustace 6, St. John Vianney 0 - Senior midfielder Sarah Furey scored twice and assisted on two goals to pace the host Crusaders.

Holy Cross 1, Paul VI 0 - Jackie Wood scored off an assist by Kelly Reilly, and Sarah Byham recorded six saves for the hosts.
