Rachel Pines, 63, of Media, a longtime business consultant, died Thursday, Nov. 7, of cancer at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Northeast Philadelphia.

For the last 20 years, Mrs. Pines was a senior consultant, vice president, and chief learning officer at Gap International, a business consulting company in Springfield, Delaware County.

"Through her exceptional coaching and consulting, she profoundly impacted thousands of lives," her son, Justin, said.

Born in Chicago, Mrs. Pines graduated from North Shore Country Day School. She received a bachelor's degree from Pomona College in Claremont, Calif., and a master's degree in piano performance from the Peabody Institute in Baltimore. She studied to be a concert pianist but gave it up in favor of transformational consulting because the latter was "her passion," her son said.

Mrs. Pines married David Pines in 1978; they met as teachers in Baltimore and celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on July 4. The couple, weary of commuting between Baltimore and Philadelphia on business, moved to Media in 2000.

Besides her husband and son, she is survived by two brothers; a sister; three nephews; and a niece.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at Gap International headquarters, 700 Old Marple Rd., Springfield. Burial is private.
