College Basketball: Temple women beat Auburn, 78-74

Tyonna Williams poured in 29 points and Feyonda Fitzgerald scored 18 as the Temple women beat Auburn, 78-74, in their home opener at McGonigle Hall on Saturday.

Erica Covile added 14 points for the Owls (3-0).

Fitzgerald nailed a three-pointer with 1 minute, 8 seconds remaining to give Temple a two-point lead, and Williams hit two free throws to seal the win for Temple.

The Tigers held a 44-26 edge at halftime.

Tyrese Tanner led the Tigers (2-1) with 19 points.

Notre Dame 96, Valparaiso 46 - Jewell Loyd scored 22 points and Lindsay Allen added 15 as the No. 6 Fighting Irish (3-0) routed the Crusaders (0-3) in South Bend, Ind.

Sciences 79, West Chester 76 - Kaitlyn Schmid nailed a pair of free throws with 2.9 seconds left to lift the visiting Devils (4-1) over the Golden Rams (1-2).

Ursinus 82, Rosemont 60 - Jess Porada had 20 points, and Diamond Lewis added 19 points, as the Bears (1-1) defeated the Ravens (0-2) in the consolation game of Messiah College's Tip-Off Tournament in Grantham, Pa.

Holy Family 66, East Stroudsburg 57 - Mary Ellen McCollum (St. Basil Academy) scored 16 points and Carolyne Heston (Villa Joseph Marie) had 13 points and 14 rebounds as the Tigers (1-1) beat the host Warriors (0-1).

Men

Syracuse 69, Colgate 50 - C.J. Fair scored 20 points and freshman guard Tyler Ennis hit four three-pointers for 12 points as the No. 9 Orange (3-0) beat the visiting Red Raiders (0-2).

Ohio State 52, Marquette 35 - Shannon Scott and Sam Thompson scored 13 points apiece to help the 10th-ranked Buckeyes (3-0) end the 27-game home-win streak of the cold-shooting No. 17 Golden Eagles (2-1) in Milwaukee.

Rowan 89, Berkeley College 60 - Joe Cassidy recorded his 300th coaching victory as the Profs (1-1) beat the Knights (2-3) in the consolation game of the Widener University Tip-Off for Autism Awareness in Chester.

Widener 93, Delaware Valley 86 - Andrew Radomicki (Penncrest) had 20 points to lead the Pride (2-0) over the Aggies (1-1) to win the Tip-Off for Autism Awareness in Chester.

West Chester 90, Philadelphia U. 82 - Eddie Mitchell (La Salle High) scored 10 of his 23 points in overtime, and Shannon Givens (Fels) added 22 as the visiting Golden Rams (2-2) beat the Rams (2-2).

Rosemont 82, Ursinus 76 - DeAndre Jordan had 14 points to lead the Ravens (1-1) over the Bears (0-2) in in the consolation game of the Messiah College Tip-Off Tournament in Grantham, Pa.
