Before the season, the big talk was about Dylan Cummings of Pennsville and Tom Flacco of Eastern becoming the first quarterbacks in South Jersey history to pass for more than 6,000 yards.

That was off by only 1,000 yards.

Cummings and Flacco each have passed 7,000 career yards. Cummings likely will soar past 7,500 on Friday night.

Flacco likely will move into third place on the state's all-time list on Friday night, behind only Cummings and Butler High School's Scott Brown.

"To hit 7,000 is a pretty nice accomplishment," Flacco said. "I didn't even know I was close to it. Right now, we're just worried about winning games and continuing this run because this is what we worked so hard for."

Cummings has 2,121 yards this season. He also has 29 touchdown passes as well as 724 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns as Pennsville (8-1), the No. 1 seed in South Jersey Group 1, prepares to play fifth-seeded Glassboro in Friday night's semifinals.

With 7,493 career passing yards, Cummings is second on New Jersey's all-time list. He probably can't catch Brown, who set his mark of 8,732 yards as a senior in 1997.

But depending on Pennsville's success on Friday, Cummings could push his career total well past 8,000.

If Pennsville beats Glassboro, the Eagles will have two more games: vs. Penns Grove on Wednesday night in the annual Thanksgiving week game, and the Group 1 state final Dec. 7 at Rowan University (which could be against Penns Grove again, if the Red Devils beat sixth-seeded Salem on Saturday).

"What's even more amazing is the total yards of offense and total TDs they account for," Pennsville coach Ryan Wood said, noting that both quarterbacks also are running threats.

Flacco has 7,012 career yards. He has 2,407 yards this season. Flacco also has 641 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns as Eastern (9-1), the No. 1 seed in South Jersey Group 5, is set to face fourth-seeded Millville in Friday night's semifinals.

Flacco needs 44 yards to pass Ramapo's Chris Simms, son of former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms, for second on New Jersey's all-time list for career passing yards.

Since Eastern doesn't have a Thanksgiving weekend game, Flacco will play just two more games at most. If Eastern beats Millville, the Vikings will play in the South Jersey Group 5 title game vs. the winner of Friday's Cherokee-Jackson semifinal on the night of Dec. 6 at Rowan.
