ORLANDO - Thaddeus Young is back.

The power forward rejoined the 76ers on Wednesday after a weeklong absence to deal with the death of a family member.

Young arrived five minutes into the Sixers' film session at the Amway Center. He participated in the team's morning shootaround for Wednesday night's game against the Orlando Magic.

Young did not speak to the media after the shootaround.

"It's great to have him back," coach Brett Brown said. "You know the team missed him. The coaching staff missed him. And he's obviously a big part of what we are doing. It's just good to have him back."

The eight-year veteran averaged 14.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.5 steals during the first 13 games. He scored a season-high 29 points on two occasions.

Brown asked Young how he wanted to be utilized in Wednesday night's game. The Sixers didn't want to overload him because he was likely to be rusty.

"He said, 'Whatever you want, but I definitely want to play,' " Brown said. "So now it's on me to figure out, you know, do you start him? How do you rotate him? What quantity of clumps of minutes do I give him?

"But it's all for me under the paranoia of respecting his health."

Brown leaned toward bringing Young off the bench.

Injury updates

Center Spencer Hawes (left knee soreness) was a game-time decision against the Magic. Reserve guard Tony Wroten (lower back strain) did not play a day after the Sixers said he would play.

"It's kind of strange," Brown said. "He had a decent practice [Tuesday] and went 100 percent. He ran through a few things [Wednesday] morning in shootaround and just didn't feel right."
