Take a cultural trip Sunday at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology's 18th annual Peace Around the World holiday celebration.

From 1 to 4 p.m. guests will receive a passport enabling them to explore cultures via speakers from Kenya, Pakistan, Cameroon, Brazil, India, and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Middle Eastern percussionist Joe Tayoun will lead an instructional drum circle at 1:30. At 2, guests can enjoy an Indian dance performance by Nrutika Sankar, Leena Chakraborty, Sonal Makwana, and children from the Bhartiya Vidalaya Cultural Center.

Hear and learn tales of peace at 3 p.m. with storytelling by Michele Belluomini of Blue Deer Storytelling. Other activities include meditative yoga class at 1 and 2:30, face painting, henna hand art, make-and-take craft tables, and more.


Peace Around the World, 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, 3260 South St. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, and until 8 on first Wednesdays of each month. Santa Claus arrives for Festival of Lights


Santa Claus is coming to town Friday night for the Festival of Lights in front of the Delaware County Courthouse in Media.

Festivities begin at 5 p.m. with the Phillie Phanatic and Star Wars characters helping to collect donations for the Media Food Bank and Toys for Tots. Musical group Makin' Music will perform. Santa will make his grand arrival at the festival atop a fire truck. The crowd will count down and Santa will flip the switch to light up the Christmas tree and State Street.

The festival is presented by the Media Business Authority.

Beauty and the Beast at Academy of Music


Disney's Beauty and the Beast continues at the Academy of Music through Sunday.

The stage production, based on the Disney screenplay written by Linda Woolverton, portrays a young woman and a beast who is actually a prince trapped by a spell. To end the curse, the beast must learn quickly how to love and be loved.
