Women's College Basketball: St. Joseph's women beat Villanova, 63-60

St. Joseph's put itself in the City Series driver's seat by topping Villanova, 63-60, Saturday at the Pavilion. The Hawks improved to 2-0 in the Big Five with the win and 8-1 overall, as senior Erin Shields (Archbishop Carroll), junior Natasha Cloud (Archbishop Carroll), and sophomores Ciara Andrews (Cheltenham), and Sarah Fairbanks combined for 55 of the team's 63 points.

St. Joe's dominated early. After Kendall Burton scored on Villanova's first possession, the Hawks ran off 13 straight points. Shields hit three three-pointers in the run.

The Wildcats (7-1, 0-1 City Series) fought back, and had the ball and a chance to tie with 21 seconds left but missed a pair of shots.

Penn 69, Bucknell 61 - With a strong game from their frontcourt, the Quakers (3-2) handed the 4-5 Bison their first home loss of the season. Two-time Ivy League scoring champion Alyssa Baron finished with 18 points for Penn.

Notre Dame 93, UCLA 60 - The Irish reserves outscored the 4-3 Bruins' bench, 46-0, en route to a victory in South Bend, Ind. Madison Cable hit four straight threes in the second half for Notre Dame (8-0) and finished with a career-high 21 points. UCLA (3-5) stayed close for the first five minutes.
