A SHOOTOUT in the Feltonville section of North Philadelphia has left one man dead and the other clinging to life, police said.

The incident occurred about 2 a.m. yesterday on Rising Sun Avenue near Wyoming, Chief Inspector Scott Small said. Officers arriving at the scene found the street strewn with items including 37 shell casings, two semiautomatic handguns, scattered money and what appeared to be marijuana.

A 26-year-old man had been shot in his head, stomach and back. He was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center in critical condition, and died about 5:46 a.m.

Later, police received reports of a second man, 25, who had been shot once in the chest and taken by private vehicle to St. Christopher's Hospital. After being stabilized at the children's hospital, he was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition last night.

Small said police had no information on a motive and the victims' identities were not available.

"It could be a robbery, or it could be something drug-related, based on what was at the scene," he said. "But at this point, we can only speculate."

Witnesses were being interviewed last night by the Homicide Unit, Small said, and surveillance footage was being reviewed.
