Francesco Fabozzi was understandably dubious when Mark Remmey told him he was joining the Central Bucks East wrestling team. The Princeton-bound standout had heard it from football players before.

"They're always coming up and asking if I think they'd be any good at wrestling," Fabozzi said Wednesday night, after C.B. East defeated rival Central Bucks West, 53-22, in a Suburban One League match.

"Usually, there's nothing behind it. Mark was the third guy to say it that year."

But Remmey was true to his word, and beginning last season, the defensive end plugged a huge hole for the Patriots at 220 pounds. On Wednesday, Remmey pinned Eric Armitage in 4 minutes, 24 seconds to give East the lead for good, 23-22.

Fabozzi, who won his match at 145 pounds via forfeit, pointed out that without Remmey, the Patriots would have had to forfeit the spot.

"That's a 12-point swing," Fabozzi said.

Remmey, who also gives heavyweight Alex Jordan someone to practice against, was matter of fact about joining.

"They needed someone at 220 pounds," Remmey said. "I wanted something to do in the winter."

East trailed, 22-11, early, but did not not lose again after Sam Presti (195) and Remmey scored back-to-back pins.

Once his match was forfeited, Fabozzi, who placed fifth at states last season, traded his headgear for a coaching hat, jumping up and down and yelling advice during East's comeback.

"If they see it from a guy like me that doesn't have to be there, I hope it gives them a little extra," Fabozzi said.

West's Riley Barth (152) and Jason Douple (160) each wrestled up a weight class and won to give the Bucks the early lead.
