Pa. Boys: Sat. Pa. boys: C.R. South's Martoccio gets 100th mat win

Council Rock South senior Danny Martoccio earned his 100th career victory and 60th career pin Saturday as the Golden Hawks captured the team title at Council Rock North's Jack Callender Memorial Rock Yard Duals.

South downed Methacton, 42-16, in the final. Martoccio earned a 1-minute, 26-second pin at 126 pounds to highlight the Hawks' 69-12 win over Williamsport.

Also at the duals:

Wesley Olsen earned a decision at 120 pounds, and Mike Rodemacher scored a pin at 182 to lift Council Rock North over Pennsbury, 28-27.

Eric Straup (120) and Dylan Henry (126) earned back-to-back pins to push Methacton past Council Rock North, 40-22.

Devil Duals. Host Avon Grove rolled to four wins, and Caleb Edwards went undefeated with a pair of pins. The senior scored a first-period pin at 182 pounds in the Red Devils' 39-34 victory over Twin Valley.

Garrett Compton, who also went undefeated, earned a major decision at 145 pounds to help the hosts down Malvern Prep, 40-25.

Ryan Hoffman won at two weight classes, including a first-period pin at 195 pounds, to help the Red Devils defeat Oxford, 51-24.

Alejandro Ortiz scored a pin in 3:33 at 132, and Avon Grove downed Strath Haven, 37-28.

Catholic. Heavyweight John-Patrick Rosney scored a pin in 1:40, and Archbishop Wood eased past visiting Cardinal O'Hara, 71-3.

Wood's George Frattara earned a pin at 126, and Alex Bellini grabbed a major decision at 132.

Boys' Basketball

Brendan McLaughlin scored a game-high 27 points, and none were more important than the three free throws he hit at the end of regulation to keep Central Bucks East alive en route to a 71-64 triple-overtime win at Suburban One Continental rival Souderton.

Also in the Suburban One League:

Upper Dublin allowed just nine second-half points in tripping visiting Upper Moreland, 54-30. Simeon Fryer led the Cardinals with 10 points.

Jimmy Murray scored 18 points, and Andre Mitchell added 15 as Plymouth Whitemarsh rolled at Upper Merion, 65-38.

Central. Ben Casanova's game-high 15 points lifted Penncrest over host Radnor, 56-51. Nelson Blickman had 13 points and seven assists for Radnor.

Catholic. West Catholic used a strong second half to cruise past host Archbishop Ryan, 57-39.

Josh Townsend scored a game-high 23 points, and the Burrs opened league play with a win for the first time since 2009-10.

Inter-Ac. Lamar Stevens' 18 points and Shawn Alston's 17 led Haverford School over Episcopal Academy, 61-48, at Philadelphia University.

Also at Philadelphia University, Andy Pancoast's 14 points helped Malvern Prep down Penn Charter, 75-70.

Battle of the Keystone State. Ahmad Gilbert scored 10 of his 22 points in the first quarter, and Constitution raced past Elmer L. Myers, 73-47, at Imhotep Charter. Lincoln Kpokuyou added five steals.

Nonleague. Mike Watkins, a junior center headed to Penn State, poured in 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Math, Civics and Sciences past visiting Pius X, 69-39. Samir Doughty added 10 assists.

Joe Robinson scored 24 points, and Jordan Greene added 21 as host Abington Friends topped Franklin Towne Charter, 69-34.

Nathaniel Searight scored 11 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead Glen Mills past visiting Cheltenham, 51-45. Dawine Harmon added 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Brian Coleman's 14 points pushed North Penn past host Lansdale Catholic, 54-47.
