Pa. Girls: Tues. Pa. girls: Mount rallies past Basil

Posted: January 09, 2014

When John Miller gathered his players at halftime Tuesday evening, he asked who they were.

The Mount St. Joseph girls' basketball coach said he did not recognize the Magic team that had dug itself an eight-point deficit after failing to defend St. Basil's screens and attack Basil's full-court press.

Miller was appealing to his team's pride, he said, and it proved sufficient as the Mount rallied to beat the visiting Panthers, 47-39, in a Catholic Academies game.

Alex Louin "kind of just took the game over" in the third quarter, Miller said. The senior point guard scored 10 of her game-high 25 points and had 10 rebounds. Carly Monzo and Colleen Steinmetz chipped in with six rebounds each.

"I think the rest of our girls feed off Alex's energy," Miller said. "When Alex is playing well, it seems our whole team plays well."

Headed for Villanova, Louin was nominated Tuesday for the McDonald's All-American Game.

Also nominated for the game were Emmanuela Awobajo and Tanesha Sutton of Neumann-Goretti, and Shipley's Sox Alexander. The final rosters will be announced Jan. 29.
