Phillies Notes: Phils sign infielder Cedeno to minor-league deal

Posted: January 15, 2014

The Phillies signed veteran infielder Ronny Cedeno to a minor-league contract and invited him to spring training, which opens Feb. 13 in Clearwater, Fla.

Cedeno, 30, played in 89 games with Houston and San Diego last season, batting a combined .242 with eight doubles, three triples, three home runs and 21 RBIs.

He has played all four infield positions at different points during a nine-year big-league career that included stints with the Chicago Cubs, Seattle, Pittsburgh and the New York Mets.

A career .246 hitter with 40 home runs and 239 RBIs, Cedeno is the 17th non-roster player to be invited to spring training by the Phillies.
