Helen Gallagher Barth, 91, of Brooklawn, a certified public accountant who was prominent in American Legion baseball, died Monday, Jan. 13, at her home.

Her husband, Joseph Sr., established the American Legion baseball team in Brooklawn in 1952, and so, her son Dennis said, "we call her the first lady of Brooklawn baseball, for all of South Jersey baseball."

Besides winning state and regional titles over the years, Brooklawn teams won the Legion World Series in 1991, 2001, and 2013.

Mrs. Barth often accompanied the team on road trips, from Maine to Washington state, Oklahoma to South Dakota.

"She washed all the uniforms, made sandwiches for the kids" while with the teams on their low-budget trips.

Born in Newport, R.I., she graduated from a Main Line high school and, her son said, from 1960 to 2003 was a partner with her husband in what is now Barth Tax & Financial Services in Brooklawn.

Besides her son and husband, Mrs. Barth is survived by son Joseph Jr., daughter Joanne Mazzola, a brother, 12 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

A viewing was set from 8 to 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Gardner Funeral Home, 126 S. Black Horse Pike, Runnemede, before a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, 426 Monmouth St., Gloucester City, with interment in New St. Mary's Mausoleum, Bellmawr.

Donations may be sent to Brooklawn Legion Baseball, 503 Route 130, Brooklawn, N.J. 08030.

Condolences may be offered to the family at www.GardnerFuneralHome.com.
