Students and police injured in rumble outside Fels High

NORTHEAST PHILA. A city police officer and two school police officers suffered minor injuries Thursday afternoon in a melee with juveniles outside a high school in Northeast Philadelphia, officials said.

Outside Fels High School in Summerdale, the group of juveniles gathered shortly before the 2:50 p.m. dismissal time, said School District spokesman Fernando Gallard.

When city and School District officers tried to disperse the juveniles, the youths began fighting with the police, Gallard said. As the high school dismissed students, some also got involved in the brawl.

Gallard said the officers suffered lacerations, bumps, and bruises, and were taken to area hospitals to be treated.

Two students from Fels and two from Dobbins High School were arrested, Gallard said. Two of those students were taken to hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.

"Clearly there were some individuals who showed up to Fels to fight or do something at dismissal," Gallard said.
