Maybe the simplest explanation is best when it comes to Tim Guers and his recent scoring outbursts.

"I think he likes playing on Friday nights," Germantown Academy coach Jim Fenerty said.

Whatever the reason, the Patriots will take it.

Guers scored a career-high 35 points, and Germantown Academy beat Haverford School on its own court, 73-65. The Fords are The Inquirer's eighth-ranked team in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Guers, a 6-foot-3 junior guard who scored 30 last Friday against Episcopal Academy, netted 11 point of the Patriots' 13 points in overtime. Sophomore point guard Devon Goodman, who missed the first eight games, added 14.

The young Patriots, who graduated the core of an Inter-Ac and state champion team a year ago, have been on fire since Goodman's return. They've won 10 games in a row, and have beaten everyone in the league once.

"It's a great win for us, but in the Inter-Ac, it's a 10-round fight, and we're only halfway through," Fenerty said.

Episcopal Academy 46, Penn Charter 41: Mike Jolaoso scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half to boost the visiting Churchmen. Penn Charter's Sean O'Brien had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Malvern Prep 65, Springside Chestnut Hill 56: Chris Anderson scored six of his 16 in the first quarter as the visiting Friars jumped out to a 15-7 lead.

La Salle 69, Archbishop Wood 67, OT: Sean Greenberg's three-pointer with 54 seconds left gave the visiting Explorers the lead for good. Pat Smith scored his 1,000th career point on a three in the second quarter. His layup with 54 seconds left in regulation forced overtime. The Cornell-bound senior had 17 points. Najee Walls led La Salle with 23.

Roman Catholic 62, Conwell-Egan 52: Manny Taylor's 16 points and 12 rebounds paced the No. 2 Cahillites at home. Rashann London also scored 16 points. Shep Garner added 14. Tony Carr had nine points and four assists.

St. Joe's Prep 44, Father Judge 36: Chris Clover helped the host Hawks shake off an uncharacteristic first quarter. Clover scored 11 points in the second and went on a 19-5 run after being outscored, 9-2, in the first. Clover had 25 points and five rebounds. Rick Slusarczyk had eight points and 14 rebounds.
