Posted: January 21, 2014

SS. NEUMANN-GORETTI High takes on Mater Dei High (Calif.) in the 2014 Spalding HoopHall Classic tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. on ESPNU. Carl Arrigale's Saints (10-2, 5-0 in Catholic League) will face Gary McKnight's Monarchs (18-0, 4-0), ranked No. 2 nationally by MaxPreps.com.

McKnight began the season with 960 wins and is the winningest coach in California high school basketball history. His headliner is 6-7 senior wing Stanley Johnson, an Arizona signee.

Arrigale entered this season 349-84 overall and is tied with Roman's Billy Markward for second all-time with nine Catholic League titles (Dennis Seddon had 10 with Roman). The Saints are led by 6-3 senior guard Ja'Quan Newton, a Miami signee.

The game is presented by the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame and will be played at Blake Arena in Springfield, Mass.

"It's nice for the kids really," Arrigale said in a phone interview. "We've talked about these experiences being great for a lifetime . . . not even counting playing on ESPN, but going to see the Hall of Fame."

The Saints return to Catholic League play against Roman Catholic on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Philadelphia University.
