Gaudin had a brush with the law last year

LAST JANUARY, the Phillies added an outfielder, Delmon Young, once arrested for a hate crime.

This January, the team has added a pitcher once charged with lewdness after allegedly groping a woman in a hospital.

Chad Gaudin, the 30-year-old pitcher the Phillies signed to a minor league contract yesterday, was charged with a misdemeanor last summer stemming from an incident that occurred last January.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle: "Police say Gaudin, who was drunk, approached a 23-year-old woman lying on a gurney in the emergency room lobby. According to the [police] report, Gaudin touched the woman's breast and face and told her she was 'gorgeous.' "

Gaudin's attorney later issued a statement that the pitcher was hospitalized for a kidney issue, with symptoms that included "confusion, dehydration and loss of orientation and/or consciousness."

He was sentenced in September to 100 hours of community service.
