The 76ers will sign Dewayne Dedmon to a second 10-day contract Friday, a league source said.

The Sixers originally added the 7-foot, 255-pounder on a 10-day contract Jan. 14, making him the first player signed by the franchise since Dan Orton was waived Jan. 7.

A center, Dedmon was called up from the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA Development League and has averaged 3.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, one blocked shot, and 14.8 minutes in five games with the Sixers.

His best performance came against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday. He scored eight points on 4-for-5 shooting and had seven rebounds and a blocked shot.

Shooting high. Nerlens Noel was a 52 percent free-throw shooter in his lone season at Kentucky.

The Sixers want their rookie center to shoot around 60 percent in his first season on the court. That goal might be too easy to attain.

"He made 19 out of 19," coach Brett Brown said about one of Noel's recent free-throw sessions. "This is a bit of a bold statement. But this year, with the rebuilding of his whole shot, can set a stage for him for many, many years."

It's unlikely Noel will play this season. The 6-foot-11, 228-pounder has been sidelined while recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He suffered the injury in February at Kentucky.

Celtic Blue. Remember Vander Blue?

He's the undrafted rookie out of Marquette who was one of the Sixers' final cuts in the preseason. He might get the chance to face the team that released him when the Sixers face the Boston Celtics on Wednesday at TD Bank Garden.

The Celtics added Blue on a 10-day contract Wednesday. The athletic guard played in that night's game against the Washington Wizards, finishing with two points, two rebounds, and an assist in a 113-111 overtime victory. He was called up from the Delaware 87ers, the Sixers' NBA Development League team, where he averaged 19 points per game.
