Phila. terrorism officers to go to Super Bowl

Posted: January 31, 2014

Philadelphia police counterterrorism officers will be headed to the Super Bowl to assist New Jersey state police with security in East Rutherford, where the game will be played Sunday.

A lieutenant and officers from Homeland Security Counter-Terror Operations spent time last weekend at MetLife Stadium to prepare for the game, which is designated as a national security event, said Chief Inspector Joseph Sullivan, head of homeland security for Philadelphia police.

They will return early Sunday and remain for the duration of the game, he said.
