Pa. Boys: Sat. Pa. boys: Lower Moreland wrestlers win AA duals

Lower Moreland led by just a point entering Saturday's final two weight classes, and the Lions captured both and earned their fourth straight district title with a 34-26 win over Bishop McDevitt, 34-26, in the final of the District 1 Class AA duals tournament.

Dmitri Bourlako scored a 3-0 decision at 145 pounds, and John Chung sealed the win at Upper Dublin with a 13-0 major decision at 152.

Blair Sykes added a second-period pin at 220, and Jimmy McGuigan grabbed a fall at 113.

In the semifinals:

Lower Moreland moved past New Hope-Solebury, 46-27, sparked by Chung's major decision that opened the match at 152. Max Pylayev (170) and Bourlako (138) added pins.

Heavyweight Brandon Coco rolled to a decision, and McDevitt won the next seven weight classes to top Springfield (Montco), 43-20. Jose Alecia (113) and Owen Barnes (132) each won by fall.

District 1 Class AAA. Lucas Martoccio, a 152-pounder, pinned to win in 1:16 in the last bout to clinch Council Rock South's 26-22 win over Garnet Valley in the third-place match. Harry Murray scored an 8-4 decision at 132, and Riley Palmer won by major decision at 106.

In the consolation semifinals:

Dan Martoccio scored a 3-2 win at 126, and Harry Murray pinned his opponent at 132 to lead Council Rock South past Pennridge, 40-25.

Gary Pizzuto (138) and Pat Rowe (145) recorded back-to-back decisions to seal Garnet Valley's 33-25 win over Downingtown East.

Basketball

Liam Brennan hit three three-pointers in the third quarter to lift Holy Ghost Prep over William Tennent, 59-54, at the Warminster Classic at Archbishop Wood. Matt England finished with 21 points.

Montverde Invitational. Mike Watkins grabbed 15 rebounds, dished out five assists, and recorded seven blocks as Math, Civics and Sciences fell to Orlando Christian Prep, 76-73, in the third-place game of the Orlando tournament.

Samir Doughty scored 10 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter as the Mighty Elephants charged back against the 22d-ranked team in the nation.

Kyle Lowry Classic. Jihad Barnes scored 16 points with six assists and six rebounds to lead Philadelphia Electrical past Milford Mills, 60-50, at Ben Franklin. James Suber added 15 rebounds.

Nonleague. Joe Robinson scored 22 points and recorded the 1,000th of his career in the third quarter of Abington Friends' 71-63 win over Palmer. He reached the mark with a layup and now has 1,011 points.

Anthony Wright-Downing scored 54 points to eclipse his own school record in host Sankofa Freedom's 84-67 win over Edison. The senior guard scored 34 points in the second half en route to his third 40-point game of the season. He also shot 11 for 14 from the foul line.

Isaiah Jones scored on a rebound at the buzzer to lift Mastery Charter North over visiting New Hope Academy Charter, 42-40.
