Sat. S.J. wrestling: Penns Grove takes three

Six wrestlers - Darrian Brooks, Jacquan McPherson, John Evans, Tykeere Miles, Craig Ransome, and Isaiah Coppage - won all three of their bouts to lead Penns Grove to a sweep of its quad meet Saturday at Ocean City.

Brooks racked up two pins at 132 pounds, including a 75-second fall in the Red Devils' 35-34 win over Ocean City. He also won by forfeit. Ransome rolled to a major decision at 220 and Miles secured a major decision at 170 vs. Ocean City.

McPherson, a 145-pounder, grabbed a pin in Penns Grove's 43-26 win over Triton. Evans added a second-period fall at 160, and Coppage recorded a pin at 220.

Evans, Ransome, Miles, and Coppage won by forfeit to help Penns Grove cruise past Maple Shade, 57-15.

At Delsea:

Jack and Nick Clark recorded back-to-back wins to seal St. Augustine's 36-30 win over Delsea. Jack Clark won by technical fall at 152, and Nick Clark won by sudden victory at 160. The Hermits, ranked No. 2 in South Jersey by Wrestling Full Circle, recorded four falls.

Delsea bounced back with a 54-12 win over Absegami. Joe Fabrizio won by fall at 195, and Jacob Hallowell added a fall at 170.

At Cumberland:

Pitman won six of the last eight weight classes to roll over Overbrook, 51-27. Matt Camma captured a decision at 120, Dan Leash won by fall at 132, and Gabe Carson added a pin at 152.

Brian Sutcliffe won by pin in 3 minutes, 54 seconds at 145 pounds to cap Overbrook's 45-36 win over Cumberland. John Quigley (120), Joshua Gilger (126), and Ryan Swift (132) recorded consecutive falls.

Overbrook sealed a 44-36 decision over Westampton Tech by winning the last three weight classes. Joseph Baran won, 8-3, at 138, Brian Sutcliffe registered a first-period fall at 145, and Jeffrey Park scored a second-period pin at 152.

Haddon Township dropped the opening bout before capturing the next six en route to downing Overbrook, 63-10. Jake Alessi (145), Nathan Rocks (152), and Jason Martinak (160) all won by fall.

At Burlington City:

The host Blue Devils moved past Palmyra, 52-16, behind Matt Lynch's 22-6 technical fall at 132 pounds and Cody Wallace's 3-2 decision at 220.

Ryan Daniels scored a pin in 1:55 at 160 pounds to trigger Burlington City's 60-9 win over Sterling. He was followed by Qadir Modraza's fall at 170 and Ajala Modraz's pin at 182.

Robert Manley recorded a pin at 220 and Arthur Diggs followed with a fall at heavyweight to lead the Blue Devils past Gloucester, 50-29. Joe Baer added a second-period pin at 138.

Olympic. Nick Passarella needed just 45 seconds to record a pin at 113 pounds as Washington Township cruised past Bishop Eustace, 77-6. Mike VanHorn followed with a first-period pin at 120.

Also in the Olympic:

Shawnee rolled to a 69-9 win at Camden. Jared Meeks recorded a fall at 182 in 63 seconds, and Matthew Repasy pinned in 1:20 at 120.

But Shawnee did not have enough for Camden Catholic as the Renegades fell, 39-32. Robert McKechney clinched the match with a 2:12 pin at 152.

Camden Catholic knocked off Camden, 56-19, thanks to Shawn Stone's 40-second pin at 138. Austin Solla (145) and Matt Cornely (152) followed with first-period falls.

Liam Kelleher scored a fall at 113, and host Paul VI slipped past Lenape, 32-31, on a tiebreaker. The tie was broken by Criteria H, the team with the most first points scored in bouts.
