Mount St. Joseph wins top seed

Mount St. Joseph captured 20 of its 22 regular-season games this season and won by an average margin of 21.65 points.

On Tuesday night, the Mount's dominance was rewarded with the No. 1 seed in the District 1 Class AAAA girls' basketball tournament.

Coach John Miller's squad, led by Villanova signee Alex Louin, will host 32d seed Great Valley at 7 Saturday night. On Wednesday, the Magic will meet St. Basil for the Catholic Academies championship at 7 p.m. at Philadelphia University.

Garnet Valley earned the second seed, and the Jaguars will be fresh off Tuesday's Central League title victory. They will host No. 31 Council Rock North. Garnet Valley, led by Maddie Ireland and Haley Warden, has lost just once this season.

North Penn earned the third seed and will host No. 30 Council Rock South.

In Class AAA:

Lower Moreland, Pope John Paul II, Villa Maria, and Chichester all earned first-round byes as the top four seeds, respectively.

Merion Mercy, the fifth seed, will open Friday against visiting Phoenixville, the No. 12 seed.
